Funny Or Die has a new owner: Henry R. Muñoz III, a prominent business leader, architect, philanthropist and Democratic fundraiser, has acquired the 14-year-old comedy website and production company.
Financial terms of the deal aren't being disclosed. Muñoz is now the sole owner and chairman of L.A.-based Funny Or Die, whose co-founders include Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Judd Apatow. The acquisition includes the Funny Or Die brand, the Funny Or Die content library, its original production slate, and Funny Or Die's social media assets with more than 40 million followers.
Muñoz purchased Funny Or Die from the company's former stakeholders, which included AMC Networks, WarnerMedia's Turner and Sequoia Capital. With the sale, Ferrell will continue to collaborate creatively with Funny Or Die, serving as an adviser.

Zach Galifianakis to Bring 'Between Two Ferns: The Movie' to Netflix in September
- 24 May 2019
- The Wrap
Zach Galifianakis' Funny or Die series "Between Two Ferns" will soon be a movie, with a global release on Netflix on Sept. 20.
"Between Two Ferns: The Movie" is directed by co-creator Scott Aukerman, who co-wrote with Galifianakis. For the uninitiated, "Between Two Ferns" features Galifianakis on a comically low-budget set as he conducts awkward, often combative interviews (full of factual errors) with famous people. Notable guests have included Brad Pitt, Jon Hamm, Hillary Clinton, and then-President Barack Obama, among others.
Created by Aukerman and Galifianakis, the show debuted on Funny or Die in 2008. Twenty-one episodes have been produced, as well as a 2012 Comedy Central special.

Zach Galifianakis' 'Between Two Ferns' Returns With Jerry Seinfeld, Cardi B (Video)
- 14 June 2018
- The Wrap
Zach Galifianakis is back with a new episode of Funny or Die's "Between Two Ferns," featuring guests Jerry Seinfeld and Cardi B.
The last time we saw an episode of "Between Two Ferns," Galifianakis sat down with Hillary Clinton in September 2016.
As is common with episodes of "Between Two Ferns," this installment is extremely uncomfortable as Galifianakis grills Seinfeld on "lazy car-based non-comedy" in regards to his show "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee," as well as his movie "Bee Movie" which Galifianakis says should've been called "D-Minus Movie."
Halfway through the episode, Galifianakis welcomes another, "better" guest, Cardi B, and the tone of the episode shifts completely — much to Seinfeld's awareness. Moreover, Seinfeld is forced to sit on a crate outside of the ferns.

Happy Tenth Birthday, Funny Or Die
- 12 April 2017
- Tubefilter News
In 2007, Will Ferrell went viral when he staged a joke conversation with his daughter. One decade later, the company introduced through that clip, Funny or Die, is celebrating its tenth birthday, and it remains a respected comedy brand in the digital video space.
Will Ferrell, Adam McKay (whose directorial credits include Anchorman and The Big Short), and screenwriter Chris Henchy launched Funny or Die on April 12, 2007. "The Landlord," in which McKay's then-20-month-old daughter Pearl delivers a profanity-laced tirade to Ferrell, served as the site's first video. It ended up becoming a massive hit, and it currently has more than 85 million total views. We have no word on whether Ferrell ended up paying his rent.
Bolstered by the success of "The Landlord," Funny or Die spent the next decade living up to its name, often with the help of celebrities. The company's most popular program, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis,

'Between Two Ferns' Director on How He'd Handle Donald Trump as a Guest (Video)
- 08 February 2017
- The Wrap
"Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis" has hosted both President Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. So how would the Funny Or Die talk show handle President Trump? "I would, maybe, try to do a prank episode where we surprised him with, you know, intel we had gained proving that he's a traitor to the United States," director Scott Aukerman joked during an interview with TheWrap's Stuart Brazell. "If we were able to come across any kind of Russian intelligence that proved that he is a traitor and should be impeached," Aukerman said. "It would be a fun prank thing,

Hillary Clinton is down in the polls with young voters as the election looms near. So what better way to get young eyes on her agenda then placing her where most 18-year-olds don't go? On Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis! The show, which is purposely iconoclastic, has always been steered towards a more eloquent, older audience. Though, it's probably one place we won't see Donald Trump pop up any time soon.
Hillary Clinton's slumping poll numbers with first time voters is cited as one of the reasons she decided to do Zach Galifianakis' unique talk show, where he doesn't ever quite treat his guests fairly. And she is fairly game and pleasant, playing along as Zach sneaks up on her in a Halloween mask, only to be taken down by her secret service before he can reach his host chair.
Truth be told, Hillary Clinton doesn't have great comedic timing,

Zach Galifianakis' online talk show "Between Two Ferns" features the host and a celebrity guest trading barbs and awkward exchanges each episode. While the majority of the guests have been fellow actors such as Jon Hamm, Bradley Cooper, or Sean Penn, the show garnered a higher profile when Galifianakis interviewed President Barack Obama in 2014 to encourage citizens to go visit Healthcare.gov. But for the latest "Between Two Ferns," Galifianakis sits down with Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to discuss all the "important" issues. Watch the episode below.

Curiosities and Tidbits From Today's Emmy Nominations
- 16 July 2015

Today's Emmy nominations had a few snubs and a few high points too. To round out your Emmys analysis diet, here are some lesser-heralded nominations and trivia items that may have escaped your notice.Jane the Virgin nabbed one very important nomination. For its narrator, Anthony Mendez. Mendez is up against Neil deGrasse Tyson, who's nominated for Hubble's Cosmic Journey; Miranda Richardson, who's nominated for Operation Orangutan; Peter Coyote, for The Roosevelts; and Henry Strozier, who's nominated for Too Cute! Which Too Cute! episode, you wonder? "Tubby Puppies." Tubby! Puppies! Billy On the Street is going up against Katy Perry. And if there's any justice in this world, he'll win. They're competing in the Outstanding Short-Form Live-Action Entertainment category, up against Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis: Brad Pitt, an episode of Childrens Hospital, and Key & Peele Presents Van and Mike: The Ascension. Hidden away at 1am on SBS2 is the enjoyably farcical Comedy Bang! Bang! hosted by Us writer and comedian Scott Aukerman (co-creator of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis). Deadpan, awkward and perfectly timed, this anti-chat show provides blessed meta-relief from the tide of men-behind-desk shows (sent up excellently by Amy Schumer), as well as existing in its own right as a petri dish of sketches and characters.
Playing the role of tortured guest on Friday was Weird Al Yankovic. Personally I prefer the episodes where there's a straight character to play off Aukerman's entirely unsuitable host, as with Jon Hamm in the previous week, but things are still reliably offbeat and hilarious here. The entire episode is
Zach Galifianakis Asks Brad Pitt About Jennifer Aniston On 'Between Two Ferns'

Brad Pitt was the latest star to serve as guest on Zach Galifianakis's Funny or Die talk show Between Two Ferns, where the Fury star was asked about Friends.
Brad Pitt On "Between Two Ferns"
"How old were you when you lost your virginity? Zero?" Galifianakis asked at the top of the infinitely awkward interview.
In true Between Two Ferns tradition, Galifianakis continued to ridicule his A-list guest, joking about how Pitt is overshadowed by his wife, mega star Angelina Jolie in this particularly funny exchange:
"Is it hard for you to maintain a suntan?"
"Why?"
"Because you live in your wife's shadow."
The interview wasn't all funny quips. The short video also features gum swapping and a short stand-up by Louis C.K.

Fans of Zach Galifianakis' Funny or Die show Between Two Ferns are all too familiar with its edgy format, in which the actor (playing a moronic version of himself) interviews various celebrities by insulting them over and over again. It's often very comical to watch, and the guests are always in on the joke -- heck, President Obama starred on an episode! It all feels very much like a comedy roast where one person is doing the roasting, and this week's show featuring Brad Pitt will go down as an all-timer -- a menacing barrage of Brad Pitt insults that are so mean and hilarious, the random Louis C.K. cameo in the middle isn't even the best part.
